St. Giles Junior Organists Scheme
We invite all students up to the age of 19 to consider applying for our Junior Organists Scheme. Junior Organ Scheme students undertake the following minimum annual commitments:
St. Giles Junior Organists
Eleven individual 60-minute lessons with one of our teachers, and completion of a folio. (Click here to download a Word template for the folio).
or
St. Giles Junior Organ Conservatoire (normal minimum standard Grade 5 organ ABRSM)
Eleven individual 60-minute lessons with one of our teachers, attending seven Saturday events (almost always in central London), completion of a folio, and performance in the Rachel Chaplin concert. (Click here to download a Word template for the folio.) St. Giles Junior Organ Conservatoire applicants may choose to specialise in training for a university organ scholarship, for which we provide special classes.
Students’ folios should include notes on repertoire completed, CDs and live music heard, and musical activities experienced during the year.
Fees for Junior students for the academic year 2009-2010:
Individual lessons: £40 per hour
Class fees for Junior Organ Conservatoire: please apply for details (2008/09 fees were £115 per term)
Classes are arranged in consultation with students at the start of the academic year; lessons are arranged at the mutual convenience of teacher and student.
Entrance to the scheme is by audition or recommendation by an Organ School teacher; places are limited. Please apply, ideally by 1st September, to Ann Elise Smoot aes@aesmoot.com, or 07956 682959. Please note that late applications for the Junior Organ Conservatoire will be considered only up to mid-October
Other opportunities which are open to those on our Junior Organists Scheme:
- You may apply to the excellent Junior programme of Guildhall School of Music and Drama, which runs on Saturdays in term time, studying organ with us as part of that programme.
- You can attend main Organ School classes (please see the Events or Workshops pages), usually at reduced prices.
- We will encourage you to attend specific events and courses run by our colleagues at other institutions.
